France’s new 34-year-old Prime Minister Gabriel Attal has announced his government. Several cabinet members, including Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin and Justice Minister Eric Dupond-Moretti, remained in their posts.

The new cabinet was announced after the new 34-year-old Prime Minister of France, Gabriel Attal, took office.

According to the news on France 24, Elysee Palace Secretary General Alexis Kohler announced the new cabinet at the presidential residence. Some of the important names of French politics kept their positions. In addition to Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin and Justice Minister Dupond-Moretti, Bruno Le Maire will continue as Finance Minister and Sebastien Lecornu as Defense Minister.

The biggest change in the new cabinet was the appointment of 38-year-old Stephane Sejoure as Foreign Minister, replacing Catherine Colonna. In this way, he became the youngest Foreign Minister of the Republic.

Catherine Vautrin was appointed Minister of Health and Labor, Amelie Oudea-Castera was appointed Minister of Education and Sylvie Retailleau was appointed Minister of Education and Research. Prisca Thevenot, formerly Deputy Minister of Youth, was appointed as Government Spokesperson.

Other cabinet appointments announced on Thursday are as follows:
Agriculture minister Marc Fesneau
Environment Minister Christophe Bechu
Minister for Gender Equality: Aurore Berge
Deputy minister for parliamentary affairs: Marie Lebec

SURPRISE NAME IN THE CABINET
According to ABC News, another ‘surprise’ cabinet reshuffle was the appointment of Rachida Dati, a former minister under right-wing former president Nicolas Sarkozy, as Culture Minister.

Dati, who was appointed Culture Minister in 2007 when she was mayor of Paris’ 7th arrondissement for the center-right Les Republicains, was the first Muslim woman to be appointed to a senior government post since she was appointed justice minister under Sarkozy in 2007. When Sarkozy appointed Dati as a minister, he said it “sends a message to all the children of France that with merit and effort, anything is possible.
