Researchers from Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s (MIT) Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Lab (CSAIL) have found the most memorable characters from “Game of Thrones” – which caused a sensation in its season-five finale on June 14 – using a special algorithm they developed to predict how memorable an image will be.
The researchers conducted the world’s largest existing memorability dataset with over 60,000 images.
Each image received a “memorability score” based on human subjects’ ability to recall it in a memory test. The researchers then had their software analyze the images to pick subtle trends about the features that made them more or less memorable.
The team used techniques in the advancing field of “deep-learning” computer science that teaches computers how to learn tasks and find patterns on their own.
The findings is as follows: Daenerys Targaryen (9.42), Margaery Tyrell (9.07), Tywinn Lannister (8.81), Jaime Lannister, Cersei Lannister, Bronn (8.78), Sansa Stark (8.7), Jon Snow, Ned Stark (8.61), Gregor Clegane (8.22), Tyrion Lannister (8.15) and Joffrey Baratheon (7.25).
